1st lakefront walk

I went out for my first walk along the lakefront on Saturday. It wasn't snowing and the temperatures finally jumped into the 40s, so I thought it was time to enjoy the lake breeze. It was a bit cooler than expected, so I was pretty chilly by the time I finished up.

I started using an app on my iPhone that will track my walks. It gives a lot of information and is a nice way to map everything out. You can follow my path and view my pace & times here.

I stopped to take some pictures along the way, since I was enjoying the scenery.

I had every intention of following the same route on Sunday, but it was cold and rainy so I opted not to. I have started to bring my walking shoes to work and hope to get in some shorter walks on my lunch hour during the week!

Welcome!

Hello everyone, and welcome! I've created this blog as a way to track my progress training and fundraising for the 2010 Chicago Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.

Thank you to everyone who has donated and continues to support my efforts for this amazing cause! I truly appreciate it!!

If anyone would like to help out, please visit my walk site here: tinyurl.com/tanyaavonwalk

I went out for my first training walk yesterday, and though it was snowing lightly and pretty gloomy, it made for a great first walk. I started in Wicker Park and headed east along North Ave. toward the lake. I walked about 5 miles in just over an hour. It was a good pace, especially considering that it was along city streets which meant stopping at crosswalks and waiting for vehicles to pass.

Here's a photo I took en route of downtown Chicago from the North Ave. bridge along the Chicago River:

I'm excited to document this process and hope you all will follow me along the way!
